UCP Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) are highly regarding throughout our community.  They assist our clients with their personal needs including daily life skill training, housing, money management, transportation, socialization and recreation.

We serve our community through 3 primary programs:

Independent Living Services

UCP of Greater New Orleans provides quality in-home support to people with a wide range of physical and developmental disabilities.  We assist our clients to live independently and participate in family and community life, to the maximum extent possible.  We believe in a Life Without Limits for people with disabilities.

Supported Employment services

Supported Employment services assists an individual to get, be trained in and keep a paid job or career.  Often this is in an integrated work setting where most of the person's co-workers are without disabilities. Paid work may be full time or part time. Each worker with a disability may have his or her own individual job or work within a small group called a crew or enclave.

UCP staff provide services to both an employer and an employee, including:

  • Recruitment-Matching an individual worker to tasks and duties in a company.
  • Initial Training-Assisting an employee and co-workers to learn a job and become part of the work team.
  • Regular support for job performance.

Dental Clinic

UCP of Greater New Orleans maintains a full-service dental office in our Administrative headquarters.  Our licensed volunteer dentists, led for the past 25 years by Dr. Frank Martello, are experienced in treating children with all types of disabilities. UCP makes going to the dentist a positive experience by delivering quality care in a comforting atmosphere.

DSPs are required to meet strict human resources and employment requirements, including a background check.  DSPs must also complete 40 hours of specific in-service training annually, which includes first aid, CPR and other emergency training.  UCP of Greater New Orleans is licensed, certified and monitored by the State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
